Vanessa da Silva grew up in the hectic, energetic city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. She majored in product design before moving to London in 2001. After completing a stint at Central Saint Martins she turned her talents to fashion and ever since her life has been dedicated to drawing and dreaming-up beautiful things.
In 2003 Vanessa da Silva launched her own label. Since then her collection has grown to include high profile boutiques and department stores all over the world. In 2004 Vanessa was chosen to design a collection for Selfridges Brazil 40 Degrees promotion, which was received with great furore.
Vanessa has two ongoing musically themed diffusion lines; for Parisian nightclub Favela Chic and folk / electronica band Tunng. She has also collaborated with some of London’s rising labels such as Basso & Brooke, Ted Baker and Pepsi, for whom the latter she revamped their eponymous logo. Vanessa continues to consult and collaborate with well-known Brazilian labels Neon, Amapo and Reserva - all of whom show during Sao Paulo Fashion Week.
For her Spring 2009 collaboration with Topshop, Vanessa da Silva created a capsule range of delectable t-shirts, dresses, vests and capes, all of which feature her unique graphic handwriting inspired by a ‘jungle goes shopping’ theme.
Vanessa’s silhouettes and illustrations challenge conventional shapes and prints thus creating a subtle and effortlessly sexy style of dress accented with handcrafted one-off pieces.
